Expertise and interests

Since 2007, I am Full Professor and Department Director in Frankfurt. This includes the coordination of the Scientific programs of the cancer center (UCT), of the Frankfurt/Mainz site of the German Cancer Consortium (DKTK) and of the LOEWE Center for Cell and Gene Therapy, all externally funded. Nationally, I coordinate the DKTK structure that is responsible to connect laboratory to clinical research (CCP). Additionally, I act as a reviewer and advisor to many national and international funding agencies and journals. I was trained as a Hematologist, a Medical Oncologist and as a Molecular Biologist. My research focus lies in leukemia research with an emphasis on its cellular and molecular pathogenesis. Currently, I work on the discovery of predictive markers and of treatment response mechanisms. Clinically, I am an expert for AML and I am a leading figure in trial groups on acute Leukemias.
